Ingredients
- 1.5kg white bread flour
- 15 ml brown sugar
- 15 ml salt
- 25ml oil
- 10g (1bag) yeast
- 1L lukewarm water
Method
- Heat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius or use a fire.
- Mix the flour, sugar and salt.
- Rub the oil into the mixture with your fingers and add the yeast.
- Make a hole in the middle of the flour mixture and slowly add the water while stirring.
- If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle over some more bread flour and knead the dough for about 6 minutes.
- Leave the dough to rise somewhere warm for about 1.5 hours.
Baking the bread:
it can either be;
- Baked in a big tray or bread pan (40cm long x 25cm wide x 15cm high) for about 1 hour as one unit.
- Divided into smaller “balls” baked until golden brown. Can be topped with spices or flavored salts to season
- Rolled into thin pieces (14cm long x 3cm wide) and twirled around a stick, and baked till brown.
Using thicker sticks (2cm diameter) will yield best results, giving you space to add extra yummy ingredients (think yummy cheese sauce, a tomato chutney, thin sausage, or chocolate spread/peanut butter or even garlic butter) inside (in the hollow space) once it
has been baked and taken off the stick.
